Bringing Nature to the City: BOWW at One Heart Festival 2026

At BOWW (Biodiversity on the World’s Watch), our mission has always been simple yet powerful: educate young people in urban environments about wildlife through hands-on experiences and engaging social media content. At the recent One Heart Festival, hosted at the Westway Sports Centre, that mission came to life in the most exciting way.

BOWW partnered up with youth charity Youth Action Alliance to bring a unique interactive animal experience right into the heart of the community. In an urban area where wildlife sightings are usually limited to pigeons and rats, bringing exotic animals directly to local young people created an unforgettable buzz.

The Stars of the Show

Our hands-on showcase gave youth in the area a rare chance to meet fascinating species up close and learn about biodiversity firsthand. The animals included were:

• Crested Gecko – A favorite among the crowd for its calm nature and striking appearance.

• Boa Snake (Boa Constrictor) – Giving attendees an awe-inspiring, up-close look at one of nature's incredible constrictors.

  Corn Snake – A vibrant, gentle reptile that helped break down fear and spark genuine curiosity.

Inspiring the Next Generation

For many of the young people in attendance, this was their first time holding or interacting with reptiles of this kind.

By combining live community pop-ups with engaging digital content across social media, BOWW continues to bridge the gap between urban youth and nature.
